DRC, Goma
Currently we have just exited DRC and are staying in Kigali, Rwanda. In the DRC we stayed in Goma and as of late the area has been a flash point for combat. Rwandan troops are crossing the border to root out Hutu Malitias and the conflict has left as many as 100,000 people displaced. We had a chance to minister to a pygmy IDP camp outside of Goma and the whole of the village received the Lord. The have suffered greatly and even now they are hungry and without plastic sheeting for shelter. We are heading back to the DRC next week for operations with UN peacekeepers and a journey to a remote pygmy tribe in the dense jungle. The pygmy tribe we are traveling to have been vitims of cannibalism by Congolese troops and the rebel positions in the jungle is the most difficult challenge in reaching them. The area of the DRC we have traveled in, and will in the weeks to come, is thick jungle with massive active valcanos, one which errupted in 2002 destroying the town of Goma completly. A big population of mountain Gorillas also live along the slopes of the valcanos and the pygmy tribes in the area are cut off from the outside world because of constant fighting and dense jungles.
